Hello and welcome to today’s blog post and to another leg in the Wild horse blog tour hosted by Meerkat press.
The book today is a bit different, because it is not a novel but a novelette, todays feature is “Wild Horse” by Kyle Richardson.
So, a quick summary of the novelette: Grady has found a crack in the wall—a crack to the outside world. But all he knows about life outside the compound comes from books, magazines, and a photograph of a creature that no longer exists. Things change when he meets a girl with raspberry-yellow hair, and a secret that could lead them to a world beyond the walls. A world where their abilities could change everything … or lead them both to ruin.
First things first, this is not my usual cup of tea (more of a coffee man myself) since this is a YA story, not that I have not read YA books before, it’s just that I have not read a lot of the genre (so far). But this is also a dystopian story featuring people with special abilities, and I do love those kinds of tales.
It is a rather short novelette, but very enjoyable read, at the end I found myself wanting to read more of Grady and his experiences. With just a few pages you are treated to a broken world where children with unique abilities are held as prisoners, experimented on. It is somewhat bleak and yet hopeful.
After reading “Wild Horses” I had so many questions, what happened to the world? How did the children get their powers? How will their blood “change the world”? Will I ever get the answers I want? If it was up to me I would have it 10-15 times longer, I would love to be immersed longer in the world that the author has created.
All in all, “Wild Horses” is a well written, fascinating and fast read that leaves you wanting more! But all is not lost, because Kyle Richardson`s debut novel “Beast Heart” comes in 2020, and going by the quality of “Wild Horses” I think we will be in for a treat then!
Remember to pick up a copy of this little novelette that is out now, from one of these places:
Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kyle lives in the suburban wilds of Canada with his adorable wife, their rambunctious son, and their adventurous daughter. He writes about shapeshifters, superheroes, and the occasional clockwork beast, moonlights as an editor at Meerkat Press, and has a terrible habit of saying the wrong thing at the most inopportune moments.
